Every morning, Erin arrives at The Wee Loft before the world has fully
stirred. With a flick of a switch, the shop lights glow softly, classical music
fills the space, and the scent of nostalgia lingers in the air. The final, most
satisfying touch—flipping the "Closed" sign to
"Open"—ushers in a new day of wonder, a day where children and their
families will step inside and experience a world of imagination, creativity,
and play.
For forty-five years, The Wee Loft has been more than just a toy store. It
has been a sanctuary for childhood wonder, a place where handcrafted toys,
timeless books, and beautifully curated playthings inspire generations of
dreamers. Erin’s passion for toys began in her early years in Germany, where
she marveled at the craftsmanship of European toys. Years later, as a mother,
she struggled to find the same quality toys for her own children and decided to
create the magic herself. What started in a tiny loft in the back of a friend’s
baby shop quickly grew into something much bigger, fueled by Erin’s vision and
dedication.
Through the years, The Wee Loft has flourished, adapting to changes in the
toy industry while staying true to its core values—offering personal service,
fostering creativity, and bringing joy to families. Erin’s business partner,
Annette, has been an essential part of this journey, working alongside her for
40 years and playing a key role in the store’s success. Annette’s warmth and
ability to remember customers' names and favorite toys made The Wee Loft feel
like home to so many families.
Despite challenges, including economic shifts and the pandemic, Erin
remained steadfast in her mission. She found ways to ensure the store could
continue serving its loyal customers, offering curbside pickup and deliveries
when families needed them most. The Wee Loft’s impact extends far beyond its
walls. Erin and Annette have always believed in the power of giving, donating
toys to local school fundraisers, Toys for Tots, and even sending shipments to
children affected by disasters. When a Ukrainian refugee family found
themselves in need, The Wee Loft ensured their first American Easter was filled
with joy, providing Easter baskets brimming with toys and comfort.
Looking back, Erin finds it hard to believe that 45 years have passed.
"I can’t believe it’s been forty-five years. It’s been amazing. What can I
say? I really appreciate everybody who’s supported us all this time—they’ve
enriched my life. And I wouldn’t have made it here without Annette by my
side."
As she plans celebrations for this milestone, she remains focused on what
truly matters: the joy of play, the magic of imagination, and the community
that has made it all possible.
